Further funding has now been awarded for continued exploration of the site and its history, and a new phase of archaeological work is currently underway.
The main aims of the project are to explore and investigate the pre-19th century industries at the site. At this early stage, the project is merely evaluating what survives of these earlier traditions, the results of which will be fed into a more comprehensive project to examine the site in more detail and to provide valuable information for the future interpretation of the site.
