The Search for the Earliest Settlers in Scotland: Stone Age Hunters in East Lothian
Kristian L.R. Pedersen, School of History, Classics and Archaeology University of Edinburgh
The earliest settlement of Scotland has traditionally remained elusive as it has been sought after in the west of the country. In recent years, however, discoveries in southern Scotland have revealed that occupation here extends further back than previously supposed and displays clear affinities with settlements in Scandinavia. A project addressed to the earliest occupation of Scotland has begun in East Lothian, with a particular focus on the raised beach ridges along the Firth of Forth.
This talk will introduce the project and its aims, as well as discussing the immense potential of the region for advancing our knowledge of the first settlement in Scotland in the Late Glacial period.'
