GULLANE AND DIRLETON HISTORY SOCIETY

|
After many years the History Societies of Gullane and Dirleton joined together to become the Gullane and Dirleton History Society. There are about 100 members. The Society seeks to actively promote interest in local and Scottish history by providing lectures, maintaining and seeking additions to an archive of historical material and encouraging research and publication of results. |
The Society;
- Meets each month throughout the winter alternately in Gullane and Dirleton for talks, often with illustrations, on topics of local and wider historical interest.
- Aims to collect, study and record the history of Dirleton Parish containing the villages of Gullane, Dirleton and Drem, part of North Berwick and the surrounding countryside.
- Maintains a well-catalogued archive of documents, tapes, photographs and maps for reference and research.
- Publishes the results of members’ research.
- Current research projects include graveyards and the story of those buried therein, shops in Gullane, buildings in Gullane, chapels in Drem and reminiscence recording in Dirleton.
